"El Baladi" in Arabic means my country, my hometown, and is a dance that grew from the backstreets of Cairo, where educated and working people from all over - Alexandria, Luxor, and many other places - came to build their lives and their fortunes. But it is more than a dance, it is a culture... Looked down upon by the 'city' people, these proud people value their honor, reputation, and stand up for themselves to demand respect from others. This women's dance, the original Egyptian women's 'solo' dance (according to Hossam Ramsy) reflects these values, proud, strong, respectable, and full of feminine power!
In this choreography, we work with an Egyptian pop song "El Baladi" by Saad El Soghayar, and bring out a touch of this 'baladi' flavor. Come channel your inner bint el balad self!
