Yoga - the art of paying attention. A union of body, mind, and spirt. Take this time to focus on your body, let your concentration turn inward to acknowledge what you need.
Yoga is about gently exploring your boundaries. In this class we will focus on breath and alignment; working to create symmetry and expand awareness. Through the yoga asanas or postures we find that our physical challenges benefit the emotional and spiritual side of ourselves as well.
We will focus on stretches and techniques to increase flexibility in the hips, and address muscles that we use (and don’t use!) in belly dance. We’ll work on creating flexibility and strength in the spine, a necessary component for backbends and laybacks you may want to add to your belly dance repertoire. Don’t forget we’ll address the core muscles, integral to supporting the spine through belly dance movements.
Not a dancer? You’ll find this class an excellent way to stretch, strengthen, and get in touch with your body - as Joseph Pilates says, ‘You’re only as old as your spine is flexible!’.
All levels welcome. We are each on our own path and yoga honors that journey.
