Arabian Nights Show/Belly Dance Hafla

Performer Etiquette:

It is the desire of Hip Expressions to have a spontaneous and fun hafla! In order for the hafla to run smoothly, we would like to recommend the following guidelines. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to inform either Karen or Johanna.

Upon arrival, please find the Stage Manager (the Front Door Person will know who this is) and give them your music and get a Performer Information Sheet to fill out. (Save time, fill one out BEFORE you arrive, click here!). Please arrive by 7pm unless prior arrangements are made for your arrival time. If you are running late, please call and let us know. We thank all of you for participating in this supportive community event.

Music on CD Only:

-marked w/track to be used

-in a protective case

-your name and phone number on CD in case it is left behind

Wear a Cover-Up:

-In order to keep a professional atmosphere, please DO NOT walk around in your

costume prior to or after your performance with out a cover-up. (A cover-up is a garment specifically designed to cover your costume.) If you do not have one of these yet, a solid colored veil wrapped to cover your costume is a temporary substitute.

Props:

-If you have props that need to be put on the stage, please let us know and we will place them for you. (mark this information on your “performer information” sheet)

Performance Line Up/Entrance and Exit:

-To maintain a professional demeanor about the show and yourself, please be backstage ready to perform 2 numbers before your performance. If you will be starting from a different location than backstage, (i.e. a specific location on stage or around the dance floor), please move discreetly into position from backstage AFTER you are introduced, unless other arrangements are made with the Emcee.

-Please do not cross the stage to get to the backstage area during another dancer’s performance. Either go back in between performances, or exit the building and go in the side performer’s backstage entrance (knock quietly).

-If there are technical difficulties during your performance, please maintain a professional attitude by keeping a smile on your face and a nice pose until the problem is worked out. If it is taking a long time, calmly exit the stage and wait backstage until the problem is resolved.

-When you have finished performing, please exit to the backstage area BEFORE returning to your seat.

-If tips are thrown when you perform, the Emcee (or another designated person) will pick them up for you after you exit.

Promotion:

-You are welcome to place fliers that pertain to dance events, classes, etc. on the table by the entrance.

Performer Bonus:

-You are entitled to free admission as a performer and 50% off of your food bill. When you check in at the door, you will receive a performer's ticket to present to your server for the discount.

Dressing Room and Before You Leave:

-Please remember to pick up your music before you leave.

-Please remove anything from the dressing room you brought in (glasses, trash, etc.)

-Please be respectful of other’s belongings.

-We hope your stay is fun. Thank you for your participation!!!

Remember, Videotaping is not allowed. DVD’s of the performance are available to the performers for $10; contact Jeff Lloyd, 727.392.7520 to get your copy. Flash Photography is okay, professional shots are available through CatEyes Photography, 727.642.4760.
