From Ancient Custom
to Modern Experience!
Who takes belly dance classes? There is no ‘typical’ student for us... we have pre-teens and teens, college students, professionals, young, old, thin, voluptuous; mothers, daughters, and grandmothers in our classes! Most women have no dance experience whatsoever; some of them used to dance years ago, and some are professional dancers who are coming to refine their technique.

Our students come for many reasons - for exercise, for fun, to meet like-minded people; for the costumes; to perform; to feel sexy; to get in touch with their femininity. What they find is that what we teach is more than dancing - it is self-confidence, powerful femininity, self-assurance, balance, grace, strength, and much much more!
For a beginner, start with one or two classes a week, and we recommend practicing on your own as well. Ten minutes of practice, every day, will do you more good than an hour practice once a week - and will help you keep your muscle memory intact and the moves will come easier next class. Take from different instructors, attend workshops; every teacher explains things a little differently, and you will get a new and fresh perspective from every instructor, perhaps helping you understand the move more thoroughly.
Once you’ve been dancing at least six months, you’re ready for a choreography class! Those classes prepare for a performance at one of our monthly Belly Dance Shows; or Hafla Dance Party! Be prepared to purchase costuming items for the performance.
