Ready for the challenge of preparing a complete performance-ready group choreography?

Classes Work on:

1. -presentation
   

2. -stage presence
   

3. -spacing
   

4. -working as part of a group
   

All these elements combine so that you are part of a larger tapestry, a dynamic group sculpture creating a visual landscape for the viewer.

Learn a dynamic, energetic, and playful dance choreographed to the music of the popular Arabic pop song “Bel Arabi” (#6 on the Hip Expressions 2010 CD). The audience will be WOWed by the numerous formation changes and group exchanges, and each dancer will enjoy her time up front!

Because this choreography focuses heavily on group dynamics, very little or no time will be dedicated to technique, so dancers should be familiar with a variety of movements. Students will learn the steps, arm movements, and formations of the choreography in class.

In addition to basic hip bumps, lifts, drops, and shimmies, students must already have the following movements in their repertoire (or be enrolled in technique classes or private lessons to get up to speed quickly):

•traveling hip circles

•hip drops with release

•figure 8s: horizontal, vertical, and Egyptian

•jewels

•hip twists, traveling

•pelvic releases with side steps

•saidi jumps

•shoulder pops and shimmies

•snake arms

•forward and back step with hip shimmies, as well as other movements layered with shimmies

Dancers should also be prepared to help fine-tune the formation changes throughout the choreography based on the number of participants in class.

Arabic Choreography

(Level 2 & up)

Classes do NOT focus on technique; students are strongly encouraged to enroll in other technique classes the Studio has to offer so that the choreography class can focus on its goal - learning choreography - not breaking down moves for those who do not attend technique classes regularly.

Costume and/or prop purchases are required for those who would like to perform.

Often these choreographies are performed at other events throughout the year; rehearsals may be held for a show in a Student Rehearsal Class which can be paid for with a drop-in fee or with a class card.

Your presence in class is vital to the group working together as a whole, and your absence not only affects your ability to perform but also others that are relying on you to place themselves, etc.  Please make an effort to be present at every class.

If you happen to miss class, or multiple classes, a private lesson with your instructor is a great idea to freshen up your memory and muscles.

Space is limited.  Full payment is due in advance.  You MUST pre-register to be part of the class. 

No drop-ins or make-ups.

Choreographies take a lot of time, effort, and creative energy to create - our choreographers take great pride in their work. Consider it like a painting or a novel, that may not be reproduced except with permission of the author.  Once permission is grated by the choreographer for you to perform the piece, (permission is usually given freely - we love seeing our work out there!), credit must always be given to the choreographer.

Pinwheels and Parasols, Burlesque for the Circus

A frivolous dance using brightly colored parasols as props and wearing pinwheels in "strategic" places. Very light hearted, cute and sexy. Be prepared to laugh and have fun!
